Pagos de Villavendimia Finca Buena Vista 2014 is a beautifully mature, single-vineyard Verdejo from 80-year-old bush vines in La Seca. The vines grow in sandy soils scattered with giant pebbles, a combination the Soblechero family believe produces particularly delicate, expressive fruit.

Farmed organically and biodynamically and produced in tiny quantities — just 647 bottles of this vintage — it's a world away from simple, youthful Rueda.

Think white flowers, dried apricot and almond, followed by a wonderfully fresh, grippy finish of aromatic herbs and cedar.

Finca Buena Vista is a beautifully mature Verdejo made from 80-year-old bush vines, farmed organically and biodynamically in La Seca. With ten years of bottle age and just 647 bottles produced, this is a very different take on the fresh, youthful style often associated with Rueda.

Think white flowers, dried apricot and almond, with aromatic herbs, lovely freshness and a gently savoury finish.

  • WHERE'S IT FROM?

La Seca, Rueda, Castilla y León, Spain

  • WHAT DOES IT GO WITH?

Roast chicken • grilled fish • Iberian ham • mature cheeses

  • WINE-O-DETAILS

    Organic & Biodynamic | 13% ABV | 100% Verdejo

  • WHAT TO EXPECT?

Finca Buena Vista is made from 100% Verdejo, grown on 80-year-old bush vines in La Seca.

The combination of old vines, sandy soils and large pebbles gives the wine plenty of personality, while the 2014 vintage brings an extra layer of maturity. There’s ripe stone fruit and dried-fruit character alongside floral and herbal notes, with enough freshness to keep the wine lively.

It’s the sort of white that rewards you for slowing down and giving it a little attention.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, with the old bush vines producing naturally low yields.

The wine is raised in a 600-litre Damy barrel, allowing the wine to develop texture and complexity without overwhelming the character of the Verdejo or its vineyard.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Vidal Soblechero is based in La Seca, right in the heart of Rueda, and focuses on old vines, individual vineyard parcels and wines that reflect where they come from.

The estate’s approach is deliberately low-intervention, with organic and biodynamic farming at its heart. Rather than chasing a particular style, the focus is on giving these old vineyards the time and space to show what they can do.
