How do we talk about this without sounding preachy?! Ok, let's have a go...
We've kind of dropped the ball a bit with our emissions and what we're doing to this planet, and the wine world is one of the industries really at the coal face (pardon the pun!) of climate change. Vines are often referred to as the "canaries in the cage" of Climate Change, and whether it's getting warmer or cooler, drier or wetter, seasonal or out-the-blue, vines are precious little buggers that are starting to struggle across the world.
There are tough choices to come, but for now, let's enjoy the fact that there are still some easy wins to begin with, and let's bloody well do them! Sounds simple enough to us.
That's why Feel Good Grapes pledges tree planting schemes to offset the carbon footprint of each individual bottle every time one of you wonderful people buys a bottle. One bottle bought equals one tree planted. We also aim to ensure that our packaging is as close to 100% recyclable or compostable. Easy enough so far!
But more than that we know that offering out wines from around the world means the extra footprint of the wines arriving on our shores from the producers as far away as the Americas and Australasia. That's why we pledge to buy carbon credits to offset all of our importing activity.
Tree Planting Scheme
So apparently trees and hedgerows can actually help us reverse the effects of climate change? Who knew?
What's more, we know we need an extra 2 billion hectares of forest to make it all work.
Yeah..quite a lot, but you can only eat an elephant one bit at a time. So for EVERY BOTTLE OF WINE we sell we'll donate to Ripple Africa's scheme to plant another tree.
Our Packaging Promise
Our aim is that the packaging we send the wines to you in is 100% recyclable or compostable.
We are proud to use PulpSafe from WBC in London, which is 100% British made and fully biodegradable. It's also as safe as any packaging on the market, making sure the wines get to you in pristine condition.
But we don't stop there. The boxes we send, all the way to the documents wallets, are 100% biodegradable.
Recorked UK are the UK's leading cork recycling not-for-profit organisation. They collect used natural corks from across the UK and either donate them to schools and charities for arts and crafts, or sell them on as second hand corks and donate those profits to charities such as Frank Water, Wild Oxfordshire, and When You Wish Upon a Star.
Each Feel Good Grapes order contains a stamped, addressed envelope for you to send your corks into this brilliant organisation!
Ripple Africa has been going since 2003, when it was founded by Liz and Geoff Furber.
Now concentrating on environmental and education projects in Malawi, the development of their fuel efficient cookstove, called Changu Changu Moto (meaning 'fast fast fire'), and tree planting schemes have led to Ripple being at the forefront of the climate change battle in Africa, that our clients can help simply by drinking some lovely wine!
