Alex Foillard Brouilly 2022 Magnum is a vibrant Cru Beaujolais made from 100% Gamay and roughly 50-year-old vines in Brouilly. Alex Foillard is part of a new generation of Beaujolais growers, combining family winemaking tradition with a fresh, low-intervention approach.

From granite-rich soils, the wine has a real sense of place, bringing together juicy fruit, freshness and silky tannins without ever feeling heavy. We love it because it has the character and provenance of a serious Cru Beaujolais, but remains wonderfully easy to enjoy. And in magnum, it’s a brilliant choice when you want a wine with personality that’s made for sharing.

What to Expect

Wild strawberry, raspberry and fresh cherry lead into violet, pepper and a subtle mineral edge. The palate is fresh and silky, with juicy fruit, fine tannins and a gentle savoury finish.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT?

Brouilly is all about the balance between juicy fruit, freshness and drinkability, and this 2022 captures that beautifully.

Made from 100% Gamay, the wine comes from vines around 50 years old, giving the fruit plenty of concentration while retaining the freshness that makes Cru Beaujolais so appealing.

The magnum format adds another dimension to the wine's appeal: it is a generous bottle for a generous occasion, particularly when there's a table full of people to share it with.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The grapes are hand harvested and fermented using natural yeasts, with whole bunches used to preserve freshness and fruit character. The wine is made with minimal intervention, without fining or filtration, and with a small addition of sulphur at bottling.

It spends around nine months ageing, partly in oak and partly in concrete, allowing the fruit to develop while keeping the wine fresh and energetic.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Alex Foillard is part of a new generation of Beaujolais growers, following in the footsteps of his father, Jean Foillard.

After studying viticulture and winemaking, Alex began working his own vineyards in 2016, including small parcels in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly. His approach is rooted in the family tradition of respectful vineyard work and low-intervention winemaking, while developing a style that is very much his own.

The vineyards are worked according to organic principles, with the focus on healthy vines, expressive fruit and wines that reflect their place.
