Alex Foillard Beaujolais-Villages 2025 is a fresh, vibrant expression of Gamay that shows just how much character can come from a wine outside the Cru appellations. Made from roughly 70-year-old vines and farmed organically, it combines juicy fruit and beautiful freshness with the depth and complexity you get from old vines.

Alex Foillard has inherited a great Beaujolais tradition from his father, Jean, but his own wines have a particularly light, energetic feel. We love this one because it is serious enough to reward a little attention, yet so fresh, silky and delicious that it never feels complicated. It's the kind of red that works brilliantly slightly chilled and makes an easy companion to everything from charcuterie to a barbecue.

What to Expect

Bright raspberry, fresh red and black cherry, violet and a touch of spice. The palate is light and silky, with lively acidity, very fine tannins and a clean, subtly mineral finish. Fresh, crunchy and wonderfully moreish.

  • ABOUT THE WINE

This Beaujolais-Villages comes from a parcel in Saint-Ennemond, in the eastern part of Beaujolais. The vines face east and are planted on limestone and sandy soils, giving the wine a lovely balance of ripe fruit and freshness.

The vines are around 70 years old, which brings extra concentration and depth to the fruit without losing the lively character that makes Gamay so appealing.

The 2025 vintage shows what Alex does particularly well: taking the freshness and drinkability of Beaujolais and giving it a little more texture and personality through old vines and careful vineyard work.

It is a great introduction to the Alex Foillard style — vibrant, pure and full of energy, with a real sense of place.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, using whole clusters and traditional carbonic maceration. Fermentation takes place in concrete over around 10 days, with a gentle pumpover every two or three days.

The wine then spends 4–5 months ageing in concrete before being bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving the freshness and character of the fruit.

  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Alex Foillard belongs to a new generation of Beaujolais growers, following in the footsteps of his father, Jean Foillard, while developing his own domaine and style.

Alex established his estate in 2015, working parcels in Brouilly, Côte-de-Brouilly and Beaujolais-Villages. His approach is rooted in careful vineyard work, organic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the character of the fruit and the individual vineyards to come through.

It's a modern take on the Foillard family tradition: precise, vibrant and full of life, without losing the sense of place that makes Beaujolais so compelling.
